In addition to the excellent care Mid Coast
Hospital nurses give to our patients, many
of the nurses serve as mentors to nursing
students from area colleges.
As mentors, the nurses oversee the student
nurses who are assigned to their units,
modeling for them safe practices, supportive
and educational interaction with patients,
informed decision making with regard to
patient care, and collaboration with other
medical specialists involved in patient
care.
While student nurses benefit from having
as varied an experience as possible in each
area of nursing practice, the patient is
always given the opportunity to determine
if a student nurse is to be part of his/her
care team.
